Class 2/3's new classroom, as it was when they moved into it on the last day of summer term 2009 (left). (They are of course Class 3/4 from the start of the new academic year 2009-2010.) The walls were painted white by parent volunteers, then a subtle coloured finish added by Lucia. The green colour was chosen to suit the stage of their lives the children will be in during this year.
Apart from painting the walls a lot of other work was carried out to make the room ready for the class, including rubbing-down and repainting the blackboards which were too shiny to draw on, and even a lick of paint on the fireplace hearth tiles.
Oops, a bit too bright ... try a more muted colour.
The (enormous) door to the alcove housing the old sink unit was removed. It was going to be replaced by a curtain, but apparently the dictates of Listed Building Consent require that we replace it, but it will have to be hung the opposite side to how it was to suit the needs of classrom usage and is currently still off. The Tame Plumber quickly(!) knocked up this handy shelving unit around the sink.
The room made beautiful ready for the children who will use it the following day
It has been necessary to provide extra WCs to accomodate the new classroom, and work has been underway since the end of term to convert the old laundry room into 2 new WCs whilst still accomodating the first-aid bay/changing room for special needs children.
The big washing machine now re-housed in the kitchen.
Work underway to convert the laundry room to WCs: brick sleeper walls partly constructed and some of the pottery placed loosely in position. Note the existing plinth along the back wall of the room which will be extended to make the raised floor of the WC cubicles.
New soil pipe connected into the manhole outside the laundry room for the new WCs.
Sleeper walls almost completed and plinth extended to make new floor for WC cubicles, WC pans placed loosely in position.
Stud partition wall dividing WCs from first-aid/special-needs changing room partly constructed.
Cloakroom finished (nearly!) ready for start of term.
